Harvesting at the Fair Haired Lad's Pass

We have just been informed that there is harvesting taking place on the East side of the Fair Haired Lads pass which affects both the South Loch Ness Trail and the Trail of the 7 Lochs. If you are coming over the pass from the south side there is a diversion path taking you straight down to the lochside road. This zig-zag path is difficult to negotiate as there is a lot of loose stone on it and it is narrow and steep so please take great care.

It is likely that the harvesting will continue until mid December.

South Loch Ness Map

The new map of trails and paths that we have been working on since January, is hot off the press and now available at many outlets in the area. All residents of Dores and Essich, Strathnairn and Stratherrick will have a copy delivered to them at home by their community councils. The Access Group has made copies freely available to all the councils for this purpose.

We are delighted with the map, which is in folded A2 format and on one side shows an overview of the whole area and on the reverse has blown up inserts of popular local areas which offer great tracks for all classes of user.

You can access the map online using the following link:-

http://www.helenstirlingmaps.com/index.asp?pageid=655887

If you would like a paper copy and are not able to get hold of one then please email me - candy@lochnessriding.co.uk

Also - do please let us know if you think there are any errors or ommissions in the map. Tell us too if you think we have done a good job!

The map is free but we are always happy to receive donations which will go towards further reprints.

Illegal Activities

We have received the following anonymous email from a concerned person and would like to ask our friends to report any such illegal activity taking place in the vicinity of the Fair Haired Lad's Pass. The message will also be passed on to the Forestry Commission:-

"I would like to highlight the fact that the fair haired lads pass is getting destroyed by motorbikes it started with a red ford connect van which was reported to crimestoppers  and now there are others with a Toyota pickup and I am sure once word gets out we will be swamped with motorbikes",.

Please help stop this type of nuisance.

Glenfarigaig Wood

The gate into the Glenfarigaig Wood from Dirichurachan meadow has been replaced with an "all singing/dancing" Centre Wire bridleway gate in a joint venture between Tilhill Economic and the Highland Council. We were the liaison for this project. There are new forest roads planned for this area too which will open up the woods for access once the harvesting has been completed.

The group has been going for fifteen years now . We are constituted to encourage and develop responsible off-road access for walkers and riders in the South Loch Ness Area, to promote the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and to liase with other access groups inthe surrounding areas.

The group is affiliated to the British Horse Soctiey Bridleways Group
